One of the main themes of The Primal World of Thaia setting is survival, and to emphasize that, we use two Resources: Food and Water.
Food and Water are necessary for any character’s survival, and are used as a form of currency in the sense that almost everything is evaluated in terms of how many units of these resources they are worth.
This last Thursday I went to Game of Boards (our FLGS) again, and was ready to continue our Primal Quest campaign and test the stuff I am making for The Tower That Fell adventure for the second issue of The Primal World of Thaia zine (I have the first 5 issues planned). The adventure will also be available in an early release format for Old Skull Publishing newsletter subscribers, and for those who choose to pay the asking price for Primal Quest – Essentials, the game rules that will be released as a PWYW product in a couple of weeks.
However, various Random Encounters and the heavy rain prevented half the group from showing up, so we decided to playtest The Cave Of Our People, a Dreamcrawl introductory adventure (and character creation funnel in the future) with the 3 folks that showed up just for fun. It wouldn’t directly affect what’s going in the game, and the new characters could become allies and future replacements when their main characters (or if) they die.
So I handed them each a blank Primal Quest character sheet made by @LicopeoArt and began explaining what we were doing and what the adventure is about (and will do the same with you, dear reader).
We have been covering the adaptation of Old-School Essentials Classic Fantasy Rules Tome to The Primal World of Thaia, my upcoming setting/zine of weird stone & sorcery adventure in a mythical stone age that never was!
In the first post we covered some general principles, and the Shaman (former Cleric) and the Molekin (former dwarf), and on the second the Ancient One (Elf) and the Warrior (Fighter). Today we get to see the last 3 starting classes!
After two weeks without a game, I was super anxious for this session of our Primal Quest campaign! We gathered back at our friendly local store, Game of Boards, and all hell broke loose! To read the previous session’s report, click here.
This session we got 2 new players, for a total of 6, so the group is pretty much full for now, but since people come and go, we can occasionally have some special guests to play with us too. But let’s take a look at what kind of characters they made!
One of them created a character named Todon, a Hunchback Pariah from another distant tribe that was welcomed by the People of the Vele. He seeks acceptance, has a big heart, a pet marsupial and strong bones.
The other went for something unorthodox, he created a character named Lucavi Victorius, a stranded Time Traveller who is adept at improvisation and jury rigging, and is a bit of a conman.

Elf (Ancient One)
A being from the race of the first people of Thaia, whose empire covered the entire world millions of years ago. They are just a shadow of their former selves now, but great power and knowledge still reside inside of them. Their time has passed, but some still linger in this ancient word.
Elves are now Ancient Ones in The Primal World of Thaia, and their appearance changes a bit. They are tall, usually hairless, with a gray skin that reflects all the colors of the spectrum. They sometimes wear old clothes from their past civilizations but the few that maintain contact with the People of the Vale. They have forgotten much about their past, but they can slowly remember it as they rediscover the mysteries of Thaia.
Spell casting: Ancient Ones don’t carry traditional spell books like Elves (although they can if that’s what the player wants), thus the “spell book” they carry can take other shapes, like a piece of Ancient One’s tech, like a tablet, a holoprojector, a crystal that can be read somehow, or something similar. Be creative.
